Fintinele Hospital

Fintinele Hospital is one of the first charity hospitals in Romania.  It has 18 beds and provides short stays (usually up to 2 weeks) for patients with chronic diseases.  No charge is made to stay in the hospital. A big thing is made of the fact that gifts are not expected or accepted by any of the staff.

The hospital initially opened in the early 1990's when Doctor Stefan Puscasu, founder of Bethesda, was the village doctor.  Conditions deteriorated over the years due to inadequate funding for maintenance - one year the total maintenance budget was only $25.  When first visited by representatives of Mid Herts Churches Romania Relief in November 1994, conditions were poor and Dr Puscasu had moved on to be a surgeon in the Suceava County Hospital.

From 1994 until 1997 Mid Herts Churches Romania Relief undertook considerable refurbishment and upgrading of facilities, in conjunction with the state health authority.   This included  :

1995 Installation of new boiler, central heating & hot water systems
1996 Construction of an extension to provide 3 consulting rooms in preparation for closure of the State    Dispensary and integration with the hospital.
1997  Provision of new toilets and upgrading/refurbishment of wards
